at the last minute…..2 more ideas.
so I recently purchased 5 nesting dolls (ukranian stacking cup people) that are bare without any paint, just wood. They are interesting in the sense that one fits into next and their size plays a large role as well. here are a couple of ideas. still trying to think of something that would really convey the theme of the show.
1: the ideal family . dad, mom, brother, sister, dog(objects could also be placed inside the dolls to further convey the idea of importance ie: money in the dad, demestic items in the mom..etc
2: race trump(might be harsh and misunderstood)white at the top, maybe native american at the bottom(because all of their land has been stolen) not sure if this ties in with the show.
3: global issue of wants and needs. fat white american……..tiny starving etheopian.
thoughts. feed back.
the other idea that swooped in was adapted from the poster thoughts. I had another dream where I drew another poster and it was of a baby head with a bluetooth ear piece. the ear piece says ” Shit dude”
and the baby says “We’re livin’ the dream”. in another bubble “wants, needs and fufilling modernity”
I have now painted this “late” poster in water colors and now I’m deciding to maybe adapt it to for the show.
maybe 3 or 4 water colors with things of that sort(baby with ear phone)
I havent put the text into the bubbles yet and I am wonderin if I should change what is said between the baby and the phone so it goes in the show instead of promoting it.
thoughts feed back. ASAP.
thanks
I like the media of the nesting dolls (although I do wonder about the actual cultural-historical context for the dolls), but I’m not totally sold on the ways you want to use them. I dunno…a little too heavy-handed, perhaps? How about something a little more universal — a bigger statement. To get at our theme, for example, you could paint the words “the future” identically on each of them, or, if you want to get all political (like a sentimental Marxist!), how about “the people”. Just some ideas…. As for the poster image idea: it sounds creepy. Bring it to class!
