Hey Bubble-Wrap

You really need to edit more than add new ideas (especially so close to the show!). It seems like you’re still not clear with your intention. What are you trying to do? Try reducing your work to the simplest version possible, and be clear and direct. It’s in there somewhere.
I agree. :/ Thanks for the response, at least.

What do you mean, bubble-wrap? I’m trying to be helpful, straightforward, and practical. You’re still in process and the deadline is only a few days away. If ever there was a time for focussed work, my friend, it’s now. Here’s what still seems to be a big part of your challenge: your premise is shaky and it’s pretty hard to build something on a shaky foundation. That is what I mean by being “clear and direct”. What are you trying to say and do, and what do you want people to get from your paintings? From what I can tell, there seems to be a vague air of “somewhat alarmed amazement” or “mild outrage” or perhaps “ironic half-bemusement” to your project. Yet, truth be told, sperm donation is really only about as ironic, outrageous, and amazing as blood donation. I mean, sure, it involves men jerking off into sample cups, but big deal. Not that I think you need, therefore, to amp-up the potential shock ante. As it is, all the Miley Cyrus porno-lite, horse dicks, and skinned lamb heads in the world can’t solve your project’s underlying confusion. Generally, “shock for shock’s sake” is often not a very good creative strategy for much (or at least not a very interesting one in the long run). Honestly, if you put the issue of “being shocking or not being shocking” aside, you’re still left with the bigger, more fundamental problem of being clear with your intention. And so, all that said, perhaps being shocking should be your intention! Why not do a whole set of really, really, really shocking images in your brightly-coloured, oddly cheerful, cartoony style? I mean, if you want to make a statement about the ever-growing super abundance of shocking images circulating as part of contemporary visual culture, then go for it — and really go for it. But, whatever you decide to do, just get clear and get it done. Better?
